Announcement--Radically Biblical Discipleship
I am looking for one to six men that want to be discipled as Jesus discipled the apostles. Lots of time will be involved and completely holy living will be required. You will be required to witness weekly. You will learn both Hebrew and Greek. And you will study the Bible inside and out. It will be called the Just The Bible Academy.
Sounds great! I must admit that I have a wonderful pastor who is personally discipling me right now, so I can't accept. How many years went by before someone offered. I pray some will take you up on it.
We are studying Alexander Strauch's Biblical Eldership and Will Metzger's "Tell the Truth" in addition to lots of biblical study. No languages yet, He's learning greek as we speak, I am taking Hebrew in a few weeks.
God bless for you to offer yourself to men in need. What part of the states you live in?
Steven, Thanks for the encouragement and sorry for the tardy answer. I am in Billings, MT.
Go for it in the languages. It is much needed. That will be an emphasis for us, too.
Some of the things that we will skip completely are psychology, church growth (aka, how to minister in the flesh by watering down the gospel), spiritual disciplines (aka, New Age practices in the church.)
Our theology will be reformed and baptistic because I am convinced both of those things are biblical.
You stay right where you are and be faithful--it sounds like you are going in the right direction.
Phil, I don't have an anonymous email account and don't see a way to message you other than this...and do want to say how grateful I am for your encouragement in the faith at the "Pulpit". The Truth is freeing and He wants us to know how by what He says...those precious ears that hear, yes? Yielding to Him in pointing others to Truth wherever He leads us is a good thing(more online than off with me at the moment because of physical issues slowly resolving). :-)

Mrs. Burrows, Actually, I appreciate anyone that endeavors to think biblically and help others to do so. I really do hope you are discipling other ladies at your locale, and will pray that is so.
Pray for me also, as I have come to a time of change in my life. I have had a dream for some time to start a Bible academy that was just Bible. No fluff, no "culturally relevant" anything. Just Bible.
Our most pressing problem in the church is not the Emergent, or contemplative prayer, or church growth liars. NO! It is the very thing that makes all these lies live in our churches--namely, few are reading and obeying the Bible as the only source of good information for the soul. We read and read and read and watch religious videos or the latest preaching phenom or the coolest religious band--we JUST DON'T READ THE BIBLE!!!
We don't need another book on church growth. The NT covers that. We don't need another seminar on witnessing. Get out and witness. We don't need another book on marriage, raising kids, mowing the lawn in the Spirit or swimming the back stroke to the glory of God. We need to read and obey the Bible.
You, on the other hand, think biblically. Keep it up. See you in heaven.
AMEN, Phil. There are times when reads are helpful to me in understanding the historical or cultural significance of wording in the Bible(like communion and Passover and "in my house are many mansions" and wedding customs from a Jewish perspective of one such as Zola Levitt) but those should be few and far between reads in comparison to time in THE Book. Too often, Christian top seller list reads have to be Berean chugged through as one evaluates everything written to see if it really is so Biblically. That is one reason why I am not familiar with many names...having a full plate as a wife, mother, and caregiver to my dad living with us consumes ample time that I am not minded to sacrifice time for God with learning from a myriad of folks that disappoint Him and me. John MacArthur is an exception but even he takes a seat further back as do those reads of others that do cross my path, know what I mean?
Why not put the ole peepers on the Word of God paramountly? I know why some don't...they likely aren't saved and can't begin to understand what they have in their hands...or are saved and reading in their own strength or are too accustomed to media techniques and fast spiritual food service and programs many claiming Jesus encourage as the way to go rather than seeking the Holy Spirit as the Teacher of all things spiritually discerned. My dad at 90, when pressed with not being able to understand the very most basic truth concerning Jesus, will say that maybe he'll read the book one of these days(and yet he says he knows he is a Christian because of what he knows in his heart which includes never doing anything wrong). I've only just begun, "me knows", but am so thankful for being His!
I'll pray for you...you pray for me and God will have us both be blessing Him in what we find our hands doing for His glory; He graciously and mercifully keeps blessing us. What He has laid on your heart to begin is beautiful...may He make it as the petals on a flower unfold with a precious aroma pointing others to Him.
A believer I met online several years ago from the other side of the states used to say that she'd see me here(meaning online), there(Heaven), or in the air(Rapture). May it be so. See you in Heaven, yes, indeed!
I'm 53 years old and currently work as a millwright. All three of my blogs are intentionally very hard hitting. If you don't like what I say, hit back. You will be censored for two reasons. 1. If you insult gratuitously or cuss. Call me stupid, crazy, or a heretic if you have a cogent argument. BUT, if you don't have an argument, you'll be censored. 2. If you are purposefully deceptive, such as changing definitions in the middle of a discussion, or outright lying. There will be no warning on the use of profanity.
My blog "Zits Emerge Truth Abides" deals with the Emergent heresy. My other blog, "Al Tosap Al Davaraiv"
is a call to get back to just obeying Jesus as His will is revealed in Scripture. Its title is taken from Proverbs 30:6--"Don't add to His words..."
